Swimming shorts & trunks
FAQ – frequently asked questions about swimming shorts & trunks
What types of swim trunks are there?
There are five models to choose from:
- Fitted swim trunks are the classic swim trunks and the favourite of swimmers who aim to glide through the water as quickly as possible. Big advantage? Fitted swim trunks make your legs look longer.
- (Long) swim shorts have really made inroads in recent years into the territory of the fitted swim trunks. They are nice and loose and come down to just above the knee, and you can find them in all kinds of colours and prints.
- Short swim shorts show off your physique somewhat better than the longer models. These, too, make your legs look a bit longer.
- Swim boxers are fitted, short swim trunks that stay in place while swimming but are slightly less tight-fitting than the more fitted trunks.
- Jammers are the favourite of men who take their swimming seriously. This close-fitting, tight model that comes down to just above the knee offers more support for the glutes and thighs.
What is a jammer?
A jammer is a close-fitting, tight swim trunk that comes down to just above the knee. Men who are swimming fanatics swear by these hydrodynamic trunks which also offer greater support for the glutes and thighs.
Are swimming trunks more hygienic than swim shorts?
Many swimming pools have banned the wearing of swim shorts, preferring their swimmers to wear tighter-fitting swim trunks, because they think the shorts are less hygienic. But that is a myth. They are only unhygienic if you wear your normal underwear under your swim shorts!
Which swimming trunks dry fastest?
Swim trunks made of polyamide or polyester dry quickly since both fabrics are strong and repellent. Polyester is also colourfast and can stand up to chlorine and UV radiation! Some swim trunks also contain cotton, but these usually also have synthetic fibres woven through them so that the resulting fabric is repellent.
