UV swimwear: dive into the water safely

Whether you’re riding the waves on your surfboard, swimming laps in the sea, or building sandcastles with the kids at the beach: in and around water, you burn more quickly. Water strongly reflects sunlight, and regular swimwear, especially when wet, lets through a surprising amount of UV radiation. At A.S.Adventure, you’ll find a wide range of UV swimwear (UPF 50+) designed for maximum protection. Looking for UV-protective clothing for hiking, travel or everyday wear instead? Discover our UV clothing collection here.

FAQ – frequently asked questions about UV swimwear

Water acts like a mirror that reflects UV rays, exposing your skin from multiple angles at once. In addition, traditional sunscreen gradually washes off in water, while the cooling effect of the sea or pool can prevent you from noticing sunburn until it’s too late.

A rash guard is specifically designed for use in water. It not only protects your skin from harmful UV rays (UPF 50+), but also helps prevent chafing and irritation caused by sand, friction from a surfboard, or straps from a life jacket.

Yes, the UV protection is built into the fibers of the fabric and remains effective in fresh, salt and chlorinated water. However, it’s best to rinse your swimwear with fresh water after use to help maintain the fabric’s elasticity.

For watersports such as surfing or paddleboarding, a close fit is recommended so the garment stays in place in the water. For beach use or relaxing, a looser fit is perfectly fine and offers more ventilation.

High-quality UV swimwear retains its protective properties even after many washes. The protection comes from the density of the fabric. To keep the fibers in top condition, wash on a gentle cycle (30°C) without fabric softener and avoid tumble drying or drying in direct sunlight.
