Travel bags

Whether you’re going on a weekend city trip or trekking abroad for a longer period of time, a travel bag is a featherweight alternative to hard trolleys. They are flexible, they fit a surprising amount of luggage (depending on the volume you choose), and they are compact and mobile. Don’t feel like rolling your bag around? Then swing it over your shoulder or onto your back in no time, or just carry it in your hand. The most important choice to make is the volume of your new travel bag. For example, you will easily need an 80 to 100 L wheeled travel bag for a 2 to 3-week trip. A 35 L duffel bag or an overnight bag will suffice for a weekend away. Just pick one and get to travelling!

FAQ – Frequently asked questions about travel bags

There are a few things to consider when picking out your first or a new travel bag:

  • Your activity: do you want to travel light and compact or do you need more luggage for a longer holiday? If you are going away for a weekend, a bag of less than 50 L is sufficient. If you go away for longer, you will need more than 50 L. Travel bags with little padding are wonderfully lightweight, but naturally offer little protection. There are also sturdier, shockproof models. Handy if you’re going on an adventure!
  • The volume: the longer you go away, the more stuff you need. Duh. But the volume of your bag can make or break your trip. Bags from 21 to 50 L are perfect for city trips and short stays. You can buy whoppers of up to 140 L for longer trips. In this case, a bag with wheels comes in handy.
  • Your preferences: there are very basic travel bags, but what stops you from increasing your comfort with handy extras? This includes things like wheels, a built-in carrying system, or a waterproof membrane.

The size of your travel bag depends on the adventure you are about to embark on! A small bag of less than 50 L will suffice for a weekend away. The big advantage is that you can take it as carry-on luggage. If you’re going on a week-long adventure or taking a long plane trip, opt for a travel bag with a capacity of more than 50 L. The advantage of these big bags is that they are a lot sturdier and shockproof. Handy if your luggage has to endure a lot on the road!

If you are going away (just) for a weekend, a travel bag of up to 50 L will suffice. Around 35 L is enough for the minimalist packer. A few outfits, possibly an extra pair of shoes, your toiletries… That’s all you need. Bonus: such a small bag can usually also just go on the plane as carry-on luggage. You’ll save money and time too!

That depends entirely on the size of your bag as well as the airline on which you’re flying. Every airline has its own restrictions on the size of your carry-on luggage. The most common dimensions are 55 x 40 x 20 cm, but be sure to check before you leave. If your carry-on luggage does not comply with the rules, they may require you to check your travel bag as hold luggage.

Carry-on luggage that simply conforms to the given dimensions not only saves you money, you also save a lot of time because you don’t have to wait at the baggage carousel!
