FAQ – frequently asked questions about torches
If you want to buy a torch, be sure to check out these features and see what you think is important.
- What material is the housing made of?
- Does the torch work on solar energy, on replaceable batteries, or does it have a rechargeable battery?
- How long does the battery last at maximum brightness?
- Is the torch waterproof and/or shockproof?
- How many lumens does the torch have?
- Does the torch have several modes (e.g. dimming, flashing, SOS mode, etc.) and can you regulate the light beam?
- Can you easily store the torch away, if needed?
- How much does the torch weigh?
- Is the torch easy to operate?
The lumen is the unit in which luminous flux is expressed. It measures the total amount of visible light that a light source emits in all directions.
If you are going to use your torch mainly for working at close quarters, then a lower brightness of up to 100 lumens is sufficient. If you need the beam to shine out far into the distance, choose a higher lumen output. How much light the torch gives off also depends on the size of the reflector. For example, a torch with fewer lumens but a larger beam may shine further than one with more lumens.
