Welcome to Stavanger

The Stavanger region in south-western Norway is rightly proud of its impressive natural features such as the Lysefjord, Sola beach, and the Preikestolen (or ‘pulpit’) rock formation, which provides one of the world’s most breath-taking vistas. In addition to all this natural beauty, Stavanger has plenty to offer in terms of culture.

The city’s compact centre means most of its sights, such as its cathedral and the (173!) white wooden houses in the old town, can easily be taken in on foot. Øvre Holmegate – often referred to as ‘Stavanger’s Notting Hill’ – is the place to be for one-of-a-kind shops and trendy bars, but it’s the colourful homes in this area that leave the longest lasting impression. If you’re in search of coffee, you could do worse than Øvre Holmegate – it’s where the locals go!
